"i Am a part of all that I have met, yet all experience is an arch where through gleams that untraveled world whose margin fades for ever and ever when i move"
-Alfred Lord Tennyson, Ulysses
Fáilte! My name is Ellie Thiemann and this is my learning portfolio. In it, one can read all about the various experiences I've had as a member of the University Honors Program at UC.
I'm currently pursuing a degree in Marketing with a minor in Urban Planning. I am passionate about organization improvement, group morale, sustainability, and advocacy for type 1 diabetes and outdoor education. I believe in the power of a good hike or a good run, and am always looking for a new opportunity to travel and experience a new place.
I recently got the opportunity to live in Cork, Ireland where I studied at the University College Cork. Living in Ireland for near five months and travelling around Europe was the best experience of my life. I'm very thankful for all the support I received from Lindner College of Business, the Honors Program, SALD, and the Ashley Soule Conroy Foundation. The people I met and the warm culture of Ireland will always be very special to me, and I hope to return to the most magical place I've ever been soon.
As a wise person once told me, half of life is simply showing up. I am glad to say I strive to truly "show up" every day and never sit in the back row. Cliche as it may sound, I'm so happy to be a member of the dynamic, growing community at University of Cincinnati. I have served in several roles in student organizations on campus including the Student Activities Board (SAB), Programs and Activities Council (PAC), and now co-chair the College Diabetes Network Chapter at UC. I also got the chance to serve campus as a Student Orientation Leader in 2015, a formative experience that grew my love for this university. It was an honor and privilege to introduce so many new students to their new home.
I am also a type one diabetic. Type one diabetes, or insulin dependent diabetes is an auto-immune disease I've had since I was nine years old. It's taught me patience, perseverance, coping with frustration. responsibility and problem solving. As much as it can be a pain, it has forced me to grow into the person I am today. In honor of having this disease for a decade I am maintaining a blog to track my management of the disease and reflect on how it's affected my lifestyle.
This summer I will be travelling for a bit to visit old friends from my time abroad, and then I will be continuing my professional experience at RBI Solar. In my current role, I am learning all about renewable energy. and gaining skills in online marketing and managing marketing for a small to mid-size business.
